Baader Fringe Killer - Achromat owners rejoice! Baader Planetarium has taken minus violet filtration to a new level. The Fringe Killer brings a type of filtration, never before seen, to the amateur. Rather than simply trimming the shorter wavelengths at a chosen wavelength and slope like all other minus violet filters, the Fringe Killer carefully attenuates a specific region of the spectrum. This allowed Baader to tune the filter for maximum practical reduction of the most damaging defocused blue wavelengths, with only a faint yellow color shift - without dimming and lowering image contrast by resorting to reduction of the important green-yellow wavelengths to crudely restore an apparent color balance! (where the eye is very sensitive, and where refractors are their sharpest) The result is a filter that removes the majority of color fringe, without notably affecting image brightness, imparting strong coloration, or reducing contrast at important wavelengths. As any telescope owner knows, light is a valuable commodity for both planetary and deep sky viewing, and the fringe killer preserves every bit of light possible. Terrestrial observers will also find the qualities of this filter to be ideal for their needs.

Baader Moon & Skyglow Filter brings an entirely unique approach to contrast enhancement and light pollution reduction. Based on earlier research at Carl Zeiss, Baader has developed a new filter that uses Neodymium glass which filters out a few specific wavelengths from streetlights as well as skyglow from the Moon. The unique spectral characteristics of Neodymium also boost color contrasts by isolating the Red, Green, and Blue regions (so-called RGB enhancement). The result is a filter that leaves natural colors intact, but enhanced.
Lunar and Planetary views are improved in all scopes, reflectors, refractors (APO or Achro). Background sky is darkened, and subtle details improved. The filter's high efficiency preserves image brightness, and many Galaxies, Nebulae and Globular Star Clusters are improved due to the reduction of skyglow from artificial lighting.

Baader Venus U-Filter The latest coating technologies permit the Baader Venus Filter to transmit from 300nm to 400nm, with a peak transmission of 80%! The filter completely blocks the rest of the region from 200nm to 1500nm, through the use of a complex 20 layer dielectric coating stack, on top of a special UG-11 substrate. Up till now, Amateur efforts typically relied upon deep violet colored filters, or combinations with simpler interference filters, which do not provide the high transmission and efficient rejection outside the important spectral region from 320nm to 390nm. Given the poor transmissions of many optics in the UV and the lower sensitivity of some CCDs to this wavelength, high filter efficiency and complete rejection at longer wavelengths becomes paramount to recording good contrast at reasonable exposures. The same high optical quality and features as the other Baader filters ensures the highest contrast and sharpest images possible.

Baader H-Alpha Filter Baader's new H-Alpha filter enables high-contrast deep sky images of H-II regions (such as the N. American Nebula). Its 45nm FWHM bandwidth is ideal for many of today's CCD cameras (particularly those with interline CCDs). The sharp, narrow bandpass and high efficiency coatings make the Baader H-Alpha filter superior to the common colored-glass based filters, all at a reasonable price. The Baader H-Alpha filter shares the same outstanding features as all the other Baader imaging filters. Unmatched optical quality, and high efficiency hardened multicoatings result in the sharpest and highest contrast images possible.

Baader Solar Continuum Filter (540 nm) Unsurpassed contrast of photospheric details is achieved by an extremely narrow half bandwidth of only 8 nm. Functions like a monochrometer, suppressing the effects of atmospheric turbulence to provide images that appear markedly more stable. Focus "Sweet Spot Generator" – completely eliminates the usual focusing guesswork – the image snaps to a razor sharp focus at the exact focal position. Image the sun the way professionals do!

Note: Use only in combination with AstroSolar Safety Film or Herschel Safety Wedge or other safe prefilters.

Baader Premium Colored Glass-Filters All substrates fineoptically polished. These filters by far supersede the mediocre quality of common "flame polished" color filters.

Fineoptical polish and 2 mm thickness allows these filters to be inserted anywhere into the optical path without introducing astigmatism or other defects. For instance they can be used in front of a binocular viewer without degrading the image in any way.

Substrates are free of striae and planeparallel polished to within 30 seconds of arc. This eliminates any double images or ghosting due to wedge errors in the glass.

The set comprises three longpass and three genuine bandpass filters, which act similar to a nebula filter, so that only a small portion of the visual spectrum is transmitted to emphasize certain planetary surface detail.

The set consists of following colors (Note the spectral trace for each color!)

  • Dark Blue (435 nm)
  • Bright Blue (470 nm)
  • Green (500 nm)
  • Yellow (495 nm)
  • Orange (570 nm)
  • Red (610 nm)
  • Transmission efficiencies for the three longpass-filters (Yellow, orange and red) peaks at 98 %, while the efficiency for the three bandpass-filters peaks at almost 70 percent - unheard of for a simple colored glass-filter!
  • All filters have standard 1 1/4" eyepiece filter threads, tested and optimized to fit allmost all eyepieces on the market. Each filtercell has a male as well as a female thread to allow stacking for narrower passbands or to combine with our UV/IR-Cut-filter. The combination of the redRG 610 (# 2458307) and IR-Cut-filter (# 2459207) for instance results in an extremely narrow H-a passband-filter - at an incredibly cheap price.

Red No23A 25% VLT - This is a very useful filter. Light red filters help to make Mercury and Venus stand out from the blue sky when viewed during the day. Used in large telescopes, light red sharpens boundaries and increases contrast on Mars, sharpens belt contrast on Jupiter, and brings out detail on Saturn.

Yellow No15 62% VLT - Yellow filters help greatly in viewing Mars by bringing out the polar ice caps, enhancing blue clouds in the atmosphere, increasing contrast, and brightening desert regions. Yellow also enhances red and orange features on Jupiter and Saturn and darkens the blue festoons near Jupiter's equator.

Orange No21 46% VLT - An orange filter helps increase contrast between light and dark areas, penetrates clouds, and assists in detecting dust storms on Mars. Orange also helps to bring out the Great Red Spot and sharpen contrast on Jupiter.

Blue No80A 30% VLT - A Blue filter provides detail in atmospheric clouds on Mars, increases contrast on the moon, brings out detail in belts and polar features on Saturn, enhances contrast on Jupiter's bright areas and cloud boundaries. A blue filter is also useful in helping to split the binary star Antares when at maximum separation.

Blue No82A 73% VLT - Light blue functions much the same as #80A Blue while maintaining overall image brightness. Light blue will also help to increase structure detail when looking at galaxies.

Violet No47 3% VLT - Violet is recommended only for use on large telescopes. A violet filter enhances lunar detail, provides contrast in Saturn's rings, darkens Jupiter's belts reduces glare on Venus, and brings out the polar ice caps on Mars.

Green No56 53%VLT - Light Green enhances frost patches, surface fogs, and polar projections on Mars, the ring system on Saturn, belts on Jupiter and works as a great general-purpose filter when viewing the Moon.

Neutral Density No96 - An excellent filter to reduce the overall brightness of an image to cut down glare. Useful for splitting binary systems, comfortably observing the moon, or stacking with other planetary filters. Retains true color balance since all wavelengths are transmitted uniformly over the entire spectrum. Available as 50%,25% and 13% VLT.
